King David had every reason to be excited about the return of the Ark of the Covenant to it's rightful place (2 Samuel 6). On the 12 mile journey from Obed-edom's house back to the City of David, they sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf every six steps! By the time they arrived at the city gates, the reality of Yahweh's presence was felt by all. It was then that King David realized one thing, he was a conquered king. He had been totally consumed by the one true King, the creator, Yahweh himself.
In those days, when a king had been defeated by another king, he would be paraded in front of the armies wearing almost nothing at all. It was a complete sign of surrender. So yes, David danced...but he removed his garments as a sign of surrender. King David was a Conquered King!
